The Lamented

Once upon a time, there was a race of creatures that was loved by man and was benevolent in return.

How things have changed.

You have defiled our holy places.
You have hunted our children to extinction.
You have destroyed our world and left it a decaying husk.

We are the Lamented.

We are here to avenge...

...Everything.

Overview

What's the game actually about?

The Lamented are creatures of myth and legend, fairytale beings that once coexisted with man but were forced to flee to their own mystical realm once science and technology began to take over the world. Out of spite, they cursed mankind so that technology would never advance further, but after a few hundred years, the Lamented became complacent and so mankind began to progress once more.

The Lamented have recently returned to Earth, taking the form of half-human hybrids. This seems to protect them from the harsh reality of the modern world.

What characters can players choose?

There are twelve Lamented Natures, each one encompassing a different sort of human failing (since newborn Lamented souls must be constructed from the shattered husk of a human mind). In addition to these "species" of Lamented, there are four political ideologies based upon the Tarot suits.

Is the game truly dark?

We think so. The Lamented hate humanity, and inflict all kinds of tortures upon them. This is a game for getting back at those you dislike. It's not nice, it's not pretty, but it is fun... So long as you know when the game ends and real life begins.

What system does the game use?

The rules (printed within the book) are consistent with version 1.0 of Cemetery Corner's d10-based gaming system.

Do the Lamented have weaknesses?

As fae-like creatures, the Lamented are weak against cold iron. They are also damaged by sunlight.

What about the Lamented powers?

The Lamented can employ their natural Gifts, which are easy to use, one-shot powers. They may also cast detailed ritual spells, with the brand new, freeform magic system that is included with the game. That's the fun part, and what makes the Lamented original - they're very powerful and can do almost anything within or without of the natural laws, but they require all sorts of nasty ritual ingredients to do so.

And much more...
